KTEL Karpathou Branding and Web Design
Overview
Identity and design system proposal for "KTEL Karpathou" that didn't see the light of the day, but with a result for which I am very happy about.
"KTEL Karpathou" is the public bus transportation service on Karpathos island.
This proposal aims to communicate the quality of the bus services while capturing the vibrant colors and the entertaining nature of the island.
Since the company intended to expand its presence in the digital era with a website and mobile booking application the design system should have a digital-first approach in order to be adaptable to various digital applications.
Places and activities icon family
A custom icon family was necessary to be designed in order to display some of the most iconic and scenic Karpathos locations such as monuments, museums, traditional windmills and churches as well as some of the top activities that can take place in Karpathos. Some secondary icons were also created to display some of the company services - such as private / group tours, hiking events, etc.
The main purpose of these came down to creating an interactive timeline and map in which the user could plan their trip using the suggested bus routes in the most amazing locations in order to discover and make the most out of the island.
Website Design
The website's first priority was to have a clean look and to be easy to use for all types of users regardless their familiarity with web interfaces. Since the website's main target is tourists visiting the island, the website's design should have a mobile first approach, as the visitor's main means of communication with the company are mobile devices.
The colour palette should be clean and light, so the contrasting main colours should be balanced with white and light grey.
Plan your trip
An interactive map and timeline was designed to suggest some of the most scenic routes that could take the travellers anywhere in Karpathos based on their interests in order to make the most out of the island while completely relying on the bus services to explore every part of it. The suggestions are based on the bus routes and are grouped based on the activities that take place on these locations. The main categories are outdoors, settlements, monuments and activities. The subcategories include places like beaches, mountains, villages, restaurants, churches, traditional windmills, museums and activities like group and private tours hiking, trekking, rock climbing etc.
The travellers are able to filter the results based on their interests and view information and pictures regarding the places / activities they would like to travel to, as well as route info such as the timetable and ticket prices.
